The Philadelphia Phillies (14-13) ended a five-game losing streak with Saturday's win over the Chicago Cubs (17-11), setting up a rubber match of the three-game series. Our Phillies vs. Cubs Sunday Night Baseball prediction backs the underdog visitors in an inevitable bounceback spot for Aaron Nola.

First pitch from Wrigley Field in Chicago is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN).

We are looking to continue the momentum from yesterday’s 2-0 day, where we predicted a Phillies win and no runs in the first inning. Read on for our MLB picks for tonight's primetime game out of the National League.

📊 Who will win today's Sunday Night Baseball matchup?

As of Sunday morning, the Cubs are favored to beat the Phillies in today's MLB matchup at 7 p.m. ET from Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Phillies have yet to win a series on the road this season, but I am still backing them to win this series finale as -105 moneyline underdogs.

🎯 Phillies vs. Cubs score prediction: Phillies 5, Cubs 3

The Phillies are 0-5 in Aaron Nola’s five starts, with the righty taking the loss in each. However, Philadelphia’s offense has scored one or fewer runs in three of those starts, and has not topped four runs anytime he has taken the rubber.

Nola’s lack of run support overshadows the fact that he still has solid metrics in ground ball rate (73rd percentile) and chase rate (81st percentile), and his ground ball rate is on pace to be his best since 2020 when he finished seventh in the Cy Young Award voting.

Cold weather and winds blowing in hard from left field the last two days have limited the home run potential of both teams. I expect that to have a bigger impact on the Cubs' offense tonight, as they entered Saturday leading the majors in slugging and on-base percentage.

I predict Philadelphia will beat Chicago by a final score of Phillies 5, Cubs 3.

1️⃣ Sunday Night Baseball first-inning prediction: NRFI

Nola’s 11.3 K/9 rate on the road trumps his 7.9 K/9 rate at home so far this season. While he has pitched to a 9.00 first-inning ERA this season (his worst of any of the first five innings), I expect him to match zeros early with Jameson Taillon, who is on pace for his second-lowest hard-hit rate allowed of the last six seasons.

A no run first inning is the best bet in this matchup.
