4 Best MLB Strikeout Predictions Tonight, April 29
Following a perfect 4-0 on Monday, we return with our best strikeout predictions tonight. We're featuring a young pitcher rising in in the Cy Young odds and a struggling veteran who's won the award before.
We have an even split of two Unders and two Overs for tonight's action, so you're only half-cheering for people to fail.

⚾ MacKenzie Gore Under 6.5 strikeouts vs. Phillies (6:45 p.m. ET) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Much like his Nationals team as a whole, Gore is one of the great early surprises of the season. His surface-level stats are very good: 3.34 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 53 strikeouts in 35 innings. But his underlying numbers, well, those are just ridiculous: 2.01 FIP, 14.8% swinging-strike rate, 2.17 SIERA. By most metrics, Gore has been one of the best pitchers in baseball.
So surely we're taking his strikeout Over today, right? Nope. His strikeout projection is still solid at 5.3, but this total is just one K too high.
Based on this projection, the break-even price on Under 6.5 is -250. What that really means is the prop should be trading at 5.5. Under 6.5 opened at plus money through our best sports betting sites and is now as short as -125. It went as short as -138 at Pinnacle this morning, and I think it's heading back in that direction this afternoon.
⚾ Taj Bradley Over 5.5 strikeouts vs. Royals (7:05 p.m. ET) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Best odds: +105 via DraftKings (bet $10 to win $10.50)
It appears Rays fans - all 15 of them - will need to wait a little longer for the Bradley breakout, as he's struggling to begin the season. He owns an ugly 5.08 ERA and has struck out only 8.58 batters per nine after managing 11.09 and 10.04 over his first two seasons, respectively.
However, Bradley should right the ship at least somewhat today in a very tasty matchup against the Royals.
I don't think people realize just how bad this Kansas City lineup is now. You certainly couldn't tell when looking their MLB playoff odds, which are still hovering around true contender status.
The Royals own the second-worst offense in all of baseball by wRC+, and they've hit the fewest home runs in the league, with only 13 through 29 games. So sure, they don't strike out a ton (Kansas City owns the league's seventh-best K rate), but that's not needed for Bradley to go Over this number if he manages to pitch into the seventh inning.
⚾ Reese Olson Over 4.5 strikeouts vs. Astros (8:10 p.m. ET) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The last time we went 4-0, we followed that up with Olson Over 4.5 strikeouts, and it cashed, so let's run it back.
The right-hander is projected to go just more than five innings tonight, allow the fewest earned runs of any pitcher set to start, and rack up 5.4 strikeouts in the process. Based on that projection, this bet looks amazing.
We're getting better than 50% +EV through these +130 odds, as the break-even price would be closer to -160. We've seen a bit of sharp movement on the Under, but not enough to scare me off.
⚾ Sandy Alcantara Under 4.5 strikeouts vs. Dodgers (10:10 p.m. ET) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Best odds: +110 via DraftKings (bet $10 to win $11)
The idea of getting Alcantara at a bargain in drafts this spring was exciting for a lot of fantasy baseball players. Unfortunately for them, the real bargain will come to the people who didn't draft him and pick the hurler up off the waiver wire in a month or so.
Alcantara has been awful so far. He owns a 6.56 ERA, and his 5% strikeout-to-walk rate is among the worst for any starting pitcher. Oh, and he faces the Dodgers tonight.
This is the best bet of the day, and one I made myself this morning at +120 odds. Somehow, despite almost all of our other best sports betting apps moving this Under to minus money - with ESPN BET as short as -120 - DraftKings is still offering it at +110. So act quickly before it adjusts to match the consensus.
