We're two weeks away from the second major of 2025, and Scottie Scheffler headlines the 156-man field at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, as the consensus betting favorite by The CJ Cup Byron Nelson odds.

Scheffler has odds of +300 to win this week at TPC Craig Ranch. Those odds represent an implied win probability of 25% in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson field. Taylor Pendrith (+3300) is back as the defending tournament champion, with Jordan Spieth (+1800) and Sungjae Im (+2500) rounding out the betting favorites.

I'm looking elsewhere for my best outright picks to win this week at TPC Craig Ranch.

The tournament begins with Round 1 on Thursday and plays through Sunday. Expect Scheffler's PGA Championship odds to move based on his finish in this week's tournament.

An has made five straight cuts, including a T-21 finish in the Masters. His best result over that stretch was a T-8 in the Arnold Palmer Invitational Signature Events against a field much stronger than this.

He's played this event each of the past two years, with finishes of T-14 and T-4. He's gained strokes in all key metrics across his last 20 measured rounds, except for putting - but even that has been better than usual for him.

I'm most interested in his 0.46 strokes gained: around-the-green and 0.39 SG: approach per round, and his driving distance will be better rewarded than his inaccuracy will be punished this week.

My first click: Will Zalatoris

Best odds: +5000 via BetMGM ($10 pays $500)

Zalatoris enters this week at No. 68 in the OWGR. He missed the cut in the Masters and tied for 54th in the RBC Heritage the next week. Through nine events this season, his best result is a T-12 in The American Express.

The 28-year-old California native tied for 17th in this event in 2021 before missing the cut the next year and skipping the event each of the past two years. Putting has been his glaring weakness this season, but he's averaging 1.00 strokes gained: approach per round.

TPC Craig Ranch also favors driving distance slightly more than accuracy, and that fits Zalatoris' current game.

🏌️ Who's favored to win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson?

Scottie Scheffler

Best odds: +300 via BetMGM | Implied win probability: 25%

Scheffler recently slipped behind Rory McIlroy by the PGA Championship odds at several of our best golf betting sites. However, he's clearly the best player in this weaker field and remains No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Scheffler didn't play this event last year but did each of the three years prior, and he made the cut each time. He improved with each subsequent finish, placing T-47 in his tournament debut, T-15, and most recently T-5 in 2023.

Though he's yet to win in 2025, Scheffler has five top-10 finishes, including the Masters (4th) and RBC Heritage (T-8). This is the weakest field he's played against this year, and he should be able to cruise to victory in his second-to-last tune-up for the PGA Championship.
